Working with Undocumented Students

George Fox University, Tigard Campus

The goal of this workshop is to provide professionals in higher education and the community with resources to better support undocumented students prior to and after they enroll in higher education. This workshop is for higher education professionals in the following areas: admissions, financial aid, student life and other key administrative roles. This workshop will also appeal to high school counselors that want to learn more about financial resources for undocumented students that they might be working with that want to pursue higher education.

The presenters are Joel Perez, Dean of Transitions and Inclusion at George Fox; Gerardo Ochoa, Associate Director of Financial Aid at Linfield College; and Sherilyn Holcombe Waxler, immigration attorney at Waxler Immigration Law. The cost is $20 to cover lunch costs.

Oregon Career Development Association Professional Development Institute and Awards Luncheon

This year’s PDI will feature Dr. Rosie Bingham of the University of Memphis presenting on The Expanding Role of Career Development Professionals and the disproportionate effects of economic distress on marginalized groups. The afternoon session will include a special report from Christian Kaylor of the Oregon Employment Department on emerging workforce trends and the state of the current Oregon labor market.

Oregon College Access 2012: Uniting toward Oregon's Goal

The Oregon College Access Network (OrCAN) is working on final plans for Oregon College Access 2012: Uniting toward Oregon's Goal. The conference will take place at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany on March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Program and registration information will be available on the OrCAN website at http://oregoncan.org/ soon. The focus of the conference is to share more about Oregon’s ambitious 40/40/20 goal and the role college access practitioners will play in reaching it. OrCAN exists to help Oregonians overcome barriers to education and training beyond high school by being a statewide hub for data and information, connecting people and organizations, sharing knowledge and resources, providing professional development and networking opportunities, and educating key leaders and policy makers about supporting preparation and persistence beyond high school.
