  CIS Fees
Print  Minimize

CIS products are priced to cover the costs of developing, maintaining, and producing them annually.

In an effort to create equity among the different types of organizations that use CIS in Oregon, the fees and the product licenses are individualized for each type of user group. These groups include high schools, middle schools, colleges and universities, agencies and businesses (including workforce agencies), and libraries.

  • All K-12 schools, school districts, and programs fall into the Schools Fee Structure and should request the Schools Fees Information Sheet.
  • Community colleges, universities, and other postsecondary educational institutions should request the the Colleges and Universities Fees Information Sheet.
  • Agencies and programs that deliver workforce services to the general public fall into the Workforce Organizations Fee Structure. Private businesses, social service agencies, community programs, and other organizations that deliver career services to their clients or employees fall into the Business and Agency Fee Structure. Both workforce agencies and other businesses and agencies should request a Business and Agency Fees Information Sheet.
  • Public libraries fall into the Library Fee Structure and should request the Library Fee Infomation Sheet.

Most of our fees also take into consideration the type and size of the site. Descriptions of all of the products are available on this web site. To make the best decision for your organization, contact CIS Customer and User Services.

Understanding CIS Fees

Organizations that license CIS automatically become members of the CIS consortium. The fees paid by all consortium members finance:

Information Analysis: This ongoing activity ensures that the occupational and educational information contained in CIS is the most up-to-date, accurate, and comprehensive national, state, and local information available. Each information component is designed to address the unique needs of career planners. Analysts review and update all information every year and then carefully build links between components, creating a true System of Information.

Training and Technical Assistance: Regional fall workshops are offered each year to coincide with the release of product updates. Additional on-site training and consultation can be arranged with CIS User Services staff during the year. Technical assistance on software installation and product use is available at any time by phone and through the Oregon CIS web site.

Complimentary Materials: CIS develops and publishes curriculum appropriate for elementary, middle, and high school students and adults. CIS also publishes a reference guide that includes product information, quick reference guides, student and client worksheets, and other materials to assist with the effective use of CIS. These materials are updated regularly and are provided for downloading from CIS Online.

Delivery System Development: We continually enhance our software and introduce new technology and improved features. These developments are designed to better address the needs of member organizations. Feedback is sought regularly through suggestion cards, evaluations, focus groups, and the CIS Board. CIS member organizations play an active role in system developments.

"Full Use" Discount Facts

School districts that have or wish to establish comprehensive school guidance and counseling programs may want to take advantage of our Full Use Package licensing. With a Full Use Package, school districts that order a comprehensive set of CIS products for all district middle and high schools receive a 15% discount.

Fifty-seven Oregon school districts took advantage of "full use" in 2004-2005. If your district is interested in joining them, request a "full use" price quote from Customer and User Services at (800) 495-1266.

To be considered a "full use" district, the district order must include the following:

Middle Schools/Junior High Schools -- connect school subjects to real life with career exploration: Each school with grades 7 and 8 must order the Middle School License.

High Schools and Alternative Schools -- prepare for the future with career and educational planning: Each high school or alternative high school in a district must order the High School License.

A district may also want to include the elementary schools in its "full use" order:

Elementary Schools -- begin with career awareness: Schools with grades 4 through 6 may wish to have access to a Career Trek Kit. Career Trek Kits must only be updated when new versions are released. The current version is the 1999-2000 release.

In addition to the 15% discount, a Full Use Package license provides the school district with portability of the CIS products. For example, if a middle school teacher would like to introduce the SKILLS program, the district may request that the SKILLS program be available for the middle school.  If a special needs teacher at the high school finds it useful to have access to a Career Trek Kit, this program can be shared throughout the district's buildings.
