Our vision includes this set of guiding principles for ongoing operations and development of CIS.

Principle 1: Fundamental Role of Career Information

Because all work has value and career development is a lifelong process with many decision points, career decision-makers of all ages require current, accurate, easily accessible, and developmentally appropriate career information.

Action: CIS produces the highest quality career information possible. Quality information must be impartial, accurate, current, and comprehensive. CIS strives to address the information needs of all ages and types of career decision-makers.

Principle 2: Innovative Delivery

Career information should be delivered through a variety of methods, including emerging technologies. Effective use of information can be encouraged through appropriate delivery media.

Action: CIS is actively seeks new and innovative methods for enhancing the delivery and access of career information to all people. As technologies advance, we will actively evaluate their applicability to CIS delivery.

Principle 3: Responsive Services

CIS’s consumers are essential to our mission - to ensure the use of quality information by career decision-makers. As a consortium, our consumers are our organization, and our overriding objective must be to meet their career information needs. all products and services can be improved.

Action: CIS actively searches for and assesses all suggestions. We continually re-evaluate our products and services. We develop our priorities based upon input from our consumers.

Principle 4: Promotion of Equity and Diversity

Career information enriches decisions and empowers individuals. Broad access to meaningful, quality career information promotes economic and social equity, and attention to equity issues is integral to the content and process of career development. Our organization’s, our state’s, and our country’s strength lies in our ability to appreciate and honor diversity.

Action: CIS strives to meet the needs of our state’s increasingly diverse population. We actively seek ways to enhance the information that we provide and the delivery of that information to help all users achieve their potential

Principle 5: Staff Development

CIS’s staff are central to its products and services. We value ongoing professional development and leadership to encourage staff to be involved, respected, challenged, and rewarded.

Action: CIS seeks to maximize the talents and abilities of its staff members. We address the organization’s needs while attempting to balance the employee’s desires for personal and professional fulfillment.

Principle 6: Synergy through Collaboration

CIS is one of many organizations concerned with the career development and lifelong learning of Oregonians. Achievement of our goals can only be accomplished in concert with the educational, social service, and business entities in the state that share the vision of enhanced educational and occupational options.

Action: CIS exerts its leadership in career development through teamwork, both internally and externally. Staff, Board, and consortium members are active participants in planning, decision-making, and advancement. We collaborate with other organizations to support the goals of career development.
